Inside the Seashell
After being introduced to the idea that at the end of sessions we would be able to identify the ‘magic trick’ which helped induce a free-flowing stream of writing, students engaged in a guided imagery.
After having been given a seashell to hold students were guided to enter a state of relaxation. Once in this state, they were taken through an imagery which involved walking along the beach, finding a seashell in a rock pool and then finding themselves inside the shell, exploring its depths and meeting a guide. Upon completion of the imagery, students drew in their workbooks and briefly documented what had taken place during their visit within the shell. Then they were asked to create a character and write in the third person.
